Powder is cheaper per gram on paper, but the two powders that exist are not on Canadian shelves. Among capsules sold here, the cheapest per gram are defatted (Swanson) or do not state how they are dried (Nutricost), so compare the drying method as well as the price.
If you want liver in food
- Open capsules and stir the contents into ground meat, burger patties, chili, stew or a smoothie. Four Rise capsules hold 3 g of liver.

- Capsules give a fixed dose each time, which a scoop or teaspoon does not.
A note on vitamin A
Liver is rich in preformed vitamin A. Health Canada sets the adult upper limit at 3,000 µg per day. Raw beef liver has about 4,968 µg per 100 g (Canadian Nutrient File, food 2788), and drying concentrates it about 3.3 times, so 3 g of dried liver works out to roughly 500 µg. Labels vary a lot between brands. Powder makes it easy to take much more than you meant to. If you are pregnant or may become pregnant, ask your clinician before taking liver.
