Last updated: October 20, 2026. Information checked at the time of writing.

Short answer: the research does not show goat colostrum carrying more IgG than cow colostrum. The one direct lab comparison found no difference. What does differ is price: the only goat colostrum we found for Canadians works out to about $2.07 per gram of actual colostrum, versus about $0.42 per gram for Rise bovine colostrum.

What the studies actually measured

Study What it compared Result
Hernández-Castellano et al., J Dairy Res 2016 Cow, goat and sheep colostrum (6 animals each) No difference in IgG or IgM between cow and goat colostrum; some other immune proteins differed
Kessler et al., J Dairy Sci 2019 First colostrum of 116 goats across 10 breeds IgG ranged from 4.8 to 75.0 mg/mL depending on breed and animal
Zamuner et al., Animal 2024 56 Saanen goats Average IgG 54 g/L, with wide variation
Morrill et al., J Dairy Sci 2012 827 cow colostrum samples from 67 farms IgG ranged from under 1 to 200 mg/mL, average 68.8 mg/mL
Kehoe et al., J Dairy Sci 2007 Cow colostrum from 55 farms IgG1 35.0 mg/mL plus IgG2 6.0 mg/mL on average

Both species vary hugely from animal to animal, so the number that matters for a supplement is the IgG the brand actually states on its label. A claim that goat colostrum has twice the IgG traces back to a small 2008 conference paper on feeding goat kids, with no absolute figures.

Goat colostrum you can buy in Canada

The only goat colostrum for people we found at Canadian-facing retailers is Mt. Capra, and its own store no longer ships to Canada, so Canadians buy it through iHerb. Each powder scoop is 2.9 g, but only 1 g of that is colostrum; the rest is goat whey protein. Mt. Capra does not state an IgG percentage yet.

Product Size and price (CAD) Colostrum per serving IgG stated Price per gram of colostrum
Mt. Capra Goat Colostrum powder (iHerb CA) 174 g, $124.04 1 g in a 2.9 g scoop (60 servings) Not stated about $2.07
Mt. Capra Goat Colostrum capsules (iHerb CA) 120 capsules, $72.19 1 g in 4 capsules (30 servings) Not stated about $2.41
Rise Bovine Colostrum powder 120 g, $49.99 All of it: one ingredient 40% IgG about $0.42

Price per gram of colostrum = price divided by the grams of actual colostrum in the container. Mt. Capra figures come from its label and iHerb CA on October 20, 2026. Rise’s 40% IgG figure is the standard listed on our product page.

When goat colostrum might still make sense

  • You prefer goat dairy for personal reasons and accept the higher cost.
  • You want a blend with goat whey protein rather than straight colostrum.
  • Either way, both are dairy: anyone avoiding milk proteins should talk to their doctor first.
